On Sunday November 7th 2010, over 30 embassies in Ireland will come together to host a unique event in Dublin, in a multi-cultural, festive bazaar in Dublin. Raising funds for Irish and international charities, the annual event is organised by the diplomatic corp in Ireland, with each embassy bringing gifts and culinary delights from their country to the event. In its fifth year, the International Bazaar will take place in the Burlington Hotel on Leeson Street from 11am ? 5pm on Sunday November 7th 2010.
In the lead up to Christmas and taking inspiration from the many famous Christmas markets throughout the world, the embassies will bring some of their Christmas and holiday traditions to Dublin with a range of festive gifts and treats for guests to enjoy on the day while supporting worthy causes.
Guests at the event can sample exquisite cuisine carefully prepared by the staff from the various embassies in the country, taking a culinary tour of the globe at the event. From Mexican quesadillas, Indian Samosas and Bhajis, Egyptian Koftas & Shwarma, American Hot Dogs, Japanese Sushi, Austrian Strudel and Sacher Tort and Belgian Chocolates, there is an endless trail of treats for foodies to enjoy. Alongside the culinary delights will be a range of traditional drinks and wines available from each country represented.
The organisers of the event over the last five years have raised in excess of ?275,000 for various charities working with women and children in Ireland and abroad. All monies raised go directly to programmes selected by the committee with a particular focus on women and children.
This year, five programmes will benefit, two based in Ireland, one in Haiti and one in Georgia and one in Pakistan. Funds will go to First Steps and their schooling for special needs children in Georgia and ATD Fourth World and their nutrition programme for pre-school children in Haiti.
In Ireland, the Lantern Centre and the National Maternity Hospital in Holles Street. The Lantern Centre provides child minding and nutritional services to immigrant families from over 26 countries around the world in Ireland. Funds going to the National Maternity Hospital will go towards the refurbishment of a family room within the hospital.
